Reflections during a sleepless night

Image
This is the second night in a row that I haven't been able to sleep. It is 5:20 am and I tossed and turned all night. Finally after laying awake for who knows how long, I am up writing about it. My state of mind is stressed, and irritated? It is weird and frustrating, but as I laid in bed tossing and turning my mind swarmed with the uncomfortableness I am feeling and all the to dos. A to do that has been in the front of my mind is the function of our bedroom/baby room. Having a design knack and a passion for functionality of spaces, the functionality of room arrangement has been something that I have been constantly playing with in our little duplex. I love finding new uses for our space and my goal is to find an arrangement that works best for Luke and I when this baby comes. I feel ridiculous that this is plaguing me so, seriously because I am stumped. Our bedroom is beautiful, I painted the walls a warm taupe gray that still offers lightness throughout the day, the large window ...

Another Opportunity of Silence

I sit here mid Sunday with another opportunity of complete silence. Just me and the comfort of my house. No electronics are being played or electricity being used (besides this computer). It is a moment that I am choosing to revel in and capture. Originally I thought to myself, self let's just relax on the couch and flip the tv to HGTV and relaaaaax. Well I am doing half that, I am relaxing in the same position I envisioned on the couch, but instead of being buzzed to hypnosis by the tv I am choosing to capture a moment of tranquility hoping for a different form of rejuvination to come about. I have captured this moment before, again a few days ago (Friday) while Luke was staying over with a friend out of town, and another time maybe a few more weeks back where it was the same situation- Luke staying over with a friend out of town. Luke is not out of town now, he is just dropping off his grandma back to his parents house. I decided to take a small snippet of time for silence and re...

Samsung Gem of thoughts...

Necessities. Today I got the Samsung Gem phone from U.S. Cellular. I went to U.S. Cellular to get a new phone because I slammed mine into a car door, which obviously, defected it. All I needed was a basic phone really, one that calls, has an alarm clock, and has a calendar. But it was only a $5 additional monthly charge to upgrade to a data phone with the plan that I am on. So, of course my eye and fingers drift through the different phones, playing with key pads and various touch screens, browsing the different apps and amenities. I came down to the Samsung Gem because it was the free phone U.S. Cellular was offering and being such the fragilest that I am (sarcasm, I am thinking of my husbands frugal nature that I am considering), I "settle" for this phone instead of spending $100-$200 on the Samsung Mezmerizrm clock, but check the weather for the next day. I can not only use my calender, but have it programmed with my email address so I can view my calender while I am check...

Capturing the Moment

Tonight I went over to my parents house to have dinner and just spend time with them. The night was simple and relaxing. We had chicken for dinner, mom and I looked through pictures on the camera, mom felt my belly for like 15 minutes saying "this is your grandma!! I am going to be the best grandma you have ever had!!" It was a treat. We ended our night watching the movie The King's Speech, which was a good movie. It was not a late night, it is currently 11:26pm, but I just wanted to capture the moment of being able to still spend time with mom and dad, tell them thank you for dinner and spending time with me, and kiss them goodnight/goodbye as they escort me out. Mom even waits outside and waves as I pack up my car and drive off. I can't help but smile and be thankful that my parents are still allowing me to just drop over, mooch off of their food, and watch their tv. I enjoy their company and their simple hospitality. Thanks Mom and Dad:)

Grilled Cheese and The Publish

I sit here in my kitchen after another semi tiresome workday with a half eaten grilled cheese sandwich, grapes, broccoli, a cold glass of milk, and a 34 week old baby in my womb that is kicking me with joy that I am finally feeding it. I am able to sit here and relax. The sun is still shining in our bright little kitchen and I am enjoying my small smorgasbord of food while also enjoying the peace and the constant little bumps and nudges I get from this baby. I have no music playing, I hear only the gentle hum of the cars going by, which is not very often, and as I look out my window at the mix of bright sun patches on the grass and cast shadows on the pavement, I know the day is ending, but the outdoors is still inviting me. There is a slight bite to the breeze, but the smell of spring is in the air. It is so peaceful to capture this moment. I am thinking today is the day to publish this blog. There is no reason why today is the day, it has next to nothing in edible eye catching conten...

The Bible- A hot mess of confusion sometimes.

Image
The Bible, not so simple and not so childlike I am learning. Right now I am in the process of reading through the book of Luke. I am taking this class called Vantage Point 3 (VP3) Monday nights at Cedar Valley Community Church and right now we are reading through the book of Luke. Maybe it is just my growing foundation that has probed my interest in the realities and liveliness of the Bible but I am truly engaged. It is not just the book of Luke that has probed my interest, but the New Testament and its relativity to life that is striking me. What I am in the process of unfolding is the depth of Matthew, Mark, & Luke (parallel / same books written by different authors, told in similar but different ways) that tell the foundation stories of the birth of Jesus, his walk here on earth, his discipleship, his various miracles, his prophecy, his death, and resurrection. These books are so basic, but I am engaged when I read the fine print, the verses from the Old and New Testament that s...

Wedding Hype

Image
There is all this buz about getting married and planning a wedding in my family right now. It is an exciting new adventure for all of us because my sister, Lucy just got engaged. What has been frustrating for me is how do you plan for such an event! For me, I think about the overall appeal or presence I want others to feel when they are at the wedding. From the minute our family and friends pull up to the church and enter into the santuary to the very last dance. I want people to feel like they have retreated into a beautiful oasis of wedding bliss. All cares wisk away at the beauty and magnificance of the event and they are forced to retreat themselves into having a good time. This is my vision when I think about my wedding, but Lucy cares more about the specific people that are there for her and her husband, she cares more about the comfortability of everyone, and making sure people are involved and having a good time. So far Lucy has not surprised me too much in her wedding planning...
